The 3 Movies You Must See in January (Trust Us)

Hitting theaters this month, stories of love and violence: Tim Burton resurrects 1960s Americana, an immigrant confronts the gangs of New York, and a masterful jailbreak features our favorite Australian heartthrob. Pause Netflix—you won't want to miss these blockbusters.
One-Woman Sweat Shop: Big Eyes

In early-1960s America, cheesy renderings of sad waifs with huge black peepers were everywhere. In Big Eyes, Tim Burton restages the stranger-than-fiction saga of how a sociopath (Christoph Waltz) conned a naive divorcée (Amy Adams) into churning out these works under his signature. It’s a droll and gorgeous saga, even if it doesn’t end up going very deep.

If You Can Make It There: A Most Violent Year

In A Most Violent Year, J. C. Chandor (Margin Call, All Is Lost) once again vividly pits man against chaos. Oscar Isaac plays a Latin American immigrant in 1981 New York City who’s trying to parlay his gangster father-in-law’s heating-oil company into a legitimate business—but he may not have a firm bead on the real agenda of his complicated American wife (Jessica Chastain).

A Perilous Match: Son of a Gun

Yet another dark Aussie delight set in a criminal demimonde, Julius Avery’s noir debut, Son of a Gun, is a grabber. Violence abounds, especially in prison, where a mastermind (Ewan McGregor) persuades a smart 19-year-old newbie to launch a jailbreak. Once the pair is out, a mega-heist is in the offing—but so is a complicating romance, courtesy of rising star Brenton Thwaites and a terrific Alicia Vikander.

5 Trends That Need to Die in 2015

First, the disclaimer: Not every trend on this list is inherently "bad." Some of them I actually really like, it's just that in the past year, everyone—from celebs to street style stars to the chick ahead of me in the juice bar line—has been wearing them. I'd like to see people wear something else for a change, but for that to happen, we're gonna need to put a moratorium on these things for a little while. (Just a little while. Like a year?)
1. AGGRESSIVE EAR JEWELRY.
Statement necklaces were the Cool Accessory Look five years ago, then it was arm parties, followed by fistfuls of dainty rings that girls slipped on faster than they could say “Catbird."This year, the most popular accessory was the ear cuff, something that felt very subversive when girls first started sliding them over their lobes, like a hybrid earring/jail cell when they were metal or an explosion of sparklyness when they were the jeweled kind. But then they started showing up everywhere, and now they feel about as rebellious as a second hole in your earlobe.
2. VERY BASIC, VERY EXPENSIVE SNEAKERS.
I'm not saying sneakers shouldn't cost money. I get why people shell out for gold hardware-decked Buscemis or python Céline slip-ons. The breed of sneaker I'm talking about is different. They're the sneakers that are just simple white leather lace-ups or black leather slides with a rubber sole, which seemed to be everywhhhereee in 2014. So many of these shoes are essentially Adidas' Stan Smiths or Vans' slip-ons but with marginally better materials, and an astronomically more expensive price tag. Why?
3. HEAD-TO-TOE NORMCORE.
I can understand the appeal of a Birkenstock or a pair of Levi's 501s, but when you wear all the normcore staples together—carbon-copying Jerry Seinfeld's look—it isn't inspired, it's lazy. Why not break up your white T-shirt, mini backpack, and acid wash denim with some stuff that shows you're part of the iPhone generation, not the flip phone one?
4. CULOTTES.
I embraced them, really. Truly. I got past the whole "These are basically high fashion gaucho pants" confusion. My problem with culottes is more that they're like, really, really popular. They're such a striking, recognizable silhouette, and they're everywhere. I legitimately just found FOURTY-FOUR pairs of culottes on Net-a-porter.com when I searched, which is crazy when you consider there were probably only four pairs on sale there last year.
5. THE (NEW) KARDASHIAN SIGNATURE LOOK.
It's the same almost every time: a crop top & pencil skirt combo or a skin-tight midi dress, a strappy stiletto or pointy toe pump, topped by a calf-grazing coat if it's cold—but always, always, everything in the same color, which is firmly planted in the "putty" family. (Though, to be fair, it may stray as far as "clay" or "camel.") Yep, it's a polished look and it photographs well! But at this point, it kind of feels like watching the same episode of KUWTK every.single.day.

Cara Delevingne to Star in a Film With Jared Leto and Will Smith

Photo: Getty Images
Cara Delevingne is officially an actrice. From fairy tale Chanel films with Pharrell to snagging lead roles in Paper Towns and Pan, Cara's already added some plum theatrical gigs to her resume. Now, she’s breaking into action, starring in a big-time movie alongside Jared Leto and Will Smith.
Delevingne has been cast in The Suicide Squad, a Warner Brothers adaptation of the DC supervillains-turned-government-agents comic book, according to E! Online. Delevingne will play the Enchantress, whose alter ego, June Moone, is a freelance artist.
Leto will play the Joker while Smith has been cast as Deadshot. Also in the film is Tom Hardy (swoon who will play Rick Flagg), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn, the Joker’s girlfriend).
Executives are reportedly still looking to cast Amanda Waller, who oversees the Suicide Squad, and have their eyes on Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, or Oprah. Any of these actresses would certainly be incredible in the role, but the possibility of Cara Delevingne Instagrams with OPRAH? Mind-blowing.
Production for the film starts in April, with the film slated to come out August 5, 2016.

Mulberry Appoints Johnny Coca

MULBERRY has appointed former Céline accessories design director Johnny Coca as its new creative director. He will be responsible for all of Mulberry's collections, including ready-to-wear, reporting to Godfrey Davis, chairman and CEO.
"I very much look forward to joining Mulberry as its new creative director and to leading a new design direction at one of the very best British brands," the designer said today.
Johnny will ensure that Mulberry continues its tradition of encouraging new young talent as he helps to build the next generation at Mulberry
So what do we know about Mulberry's new man? He hails from Seville and studied art, architecture and design at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Ecole Boulle in Paris. Roles at Bally and Louis Vuitton honed his skills as an accessories specialist and led to his role at Céline. Fluent in four languages, Coca brings an international flair to the British brand - but also has a strong foundation in London. He has tutored students at Central Saint Martins and intends, the brand says, "to ensure that Mulberry continues its tradition of encouraging new young talent as he helps to build the next generation at Mulberry".
"We are delighted that Johnny is joining us," Godfrey Davis added. "He has a wealth of international luxury and fashion experience that will help us bring new energy and innovation to Mulberry."
Coca was just one of the talents linked with the job in recent months, and comes to the role more than a year after the previous creative director Emma Hill's departure. His tenure at Mulberry will begin on July 8, 2015.

Exclusive: Olivia Jean Steps Out of Jack White's Shadow

Photo: Courtesy of Fresh and Clean Media
Alternative. Unconventional. Different. These are the words Olivia Jean uses to describe herself. "I hope I inspire other female artists who have similar tastes to not be afraid to be themselves. Not everyone fits the cookie cutter mold of what popular music has become these days," says Jack White's protégé whose debut album, Bathtub Love Killings, was released last month.
Having cut her teeth playing in bands for White, Karen Elson, and Wanda Jackson, the no-frills brunette has finally struck out on her own. Her debut LP is dashed with bluesy licks, spooky organs, and girl-group harmonies. "It’s helped me in a lot of ways," the multi-instrumentalist says of touring and recording with such acclaimed talents. "They’ve given me advice when it comes to songwriting, live performance, basically everything that it takes to be in the public eye." While Jean (whose new music video for "Merry Widow" premieres exclusively below) is decidedly in control of her image ("I don't have a wardrobe stylist or anything like that. I do all my own hair and makeup") and draws inspiration from vintage design and '60s makeup," she’s the first to admit her onstage persona is still a work in progress.
"I’m still kind of getting the hang of it even though I’ve been doing it for a long time," Jean, who is diagnosed with social phobia, explains of performing. "I’m very shy so it’s difficult for me to perform. But I really enjoy doing it. Having social anxiety makes it a lot different than for the majority of musicians out there. So every show is an accomplishment."
Signed to White’s Third Man Records label, Jean, who previously played in the girl group Black Belles, received particular motivation and support from her label boss. "Jack really allowed me to take the reins and have full creative control of how everything turned out," she says. "He’s very encouraging to whoever is working in his studio to just create how they would create anywhere else."

It Brit Designer Simone Rocha Debuts Clique-Inspired Denim

Photo: Benjamin McMahon
This article appears in the November 2014 issue of ELLE magazine.
Denim isn't the first thing that comes to mind at the mention of Irish designer Simone Rocha—she of the Perspex platforms and faux-prim fluorescent guipure frocks spotted on fashion darlings Alexa Chung and Chloë Grace Moretz. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find a pair of trousers in her namesake collection—all the more reason why her latest collaboration, with denim label J Brand (available in mid-November at Dover Street Market), will thrill her ardent fans.
The 28-year-old Rocha, who founded her line in 2011, was first approached by the L.A.-based denim maker earlier this year, shortly after the highly praised presentation of her pearl-studded, Elizabethan-inspired fall collection. Given that J Brand has collaborated with critics' favorites in the past—Proenza Schouler, Hussein Chalayan, Christopher Kane—you could say Rocha is following in fairly big footsteps. But J Brand is lucky to have the young talent onboard given all the industry whispers regarding LVMH's intentions for her label. Rocha admits switching gears was a new challenge. "I'd never worked with denim before. It was a bit tricky, but interesting to see how it could be manipulated," she says. And these are no basic five-pocket numbers. "I really wanted to introduce volume into the skirts, dresses, and jackets. I felt that was the best new way of working with the existing silhouettes," she explains. The result: The designer has melded her feminine aesthetic and voluminous shapes with that most proletarian of textiles, producing full, ruffle-trimmed skirts and dresses that can be easily worn over the line's (also frilled) cropped skinnies.
Rocha envisioned the collection as a sort of urban uniform, but one that doesn't feel at all restrictive. "I really wanted the collection to seem youthful and fun," she says. "I was thinking of girls in uniforms in a gang and how everyone is part of that uniform but in their own way. I saw these girls outside my studio in East London mucking about, so the colors came from nature. I was attracted to how each style in a different color felt like a different personality."
In addition to the aforementioned eye-popping lace, the bold use of color—butter-yellow python or bubble-gum-pink neoprene, for example—is one of Rocha's hallmark. So while the J Brand collection will introduce a new customer to her designs, existing fans will likely be pleased to pair the off-duty styles (prices range from $250 for jeans to $590 for a dress) with their fresh-from-the-runway pieces. And just who is that customer? Rocha describes her as "a bit of a free spirit, cool and real," not unlike the teenage Rocha, who "used to just hang out down by the canal" in her favorite jean skort. With her newfound affinity for denim, will Rocha be unearthing that vintage skort anytime soon? "I think I'll stick to my new collection," she says with a laugh.

4 Weddings and 3 Divorces: An Expert's Guide to Love Gone Wrong

Ann Landers (Photo: Getty Images)
Margo Howard has advice in her veins. She’s the daughter of Ann Landers (otherwise known as Eppie Lederer), the niece of Dear Abby, and an advice columnist in her own right—she was behind Slate’s Dear Prudence column for eight years and she had her own syndicated column called Dear Margo until 2013. Though she’s dished out her share of romantic advice, she’s not exactly the best at taking it. She’s on husband number four, and in her kicky new memoir Eat, Drink & Remarry, Howard is transparent about her many romantic missteps.
But Eat, Drink & Remarry isn’t strictly self-help—it’s more of a cautionary tale about avoiding the wrong men. Here’s the best advice that Howard never took, but wished she did. And the one piece of advice she did take, and was glad for it.

Photo: Courtesy of Publisher
Lesson 1: Don’t Ignore the Greek Chorus
When Howard was just a senior in college, she met her first husband. In hindsight, she describes him as "an unattractive Prince Charles." That should tell you about how well their marriage turned out. She agreed to marry him on their fourth date. "Reader, I said yes," she admits. "Do not ask me why because I could not tell you." She proceeded to ignore a lot of red flags, including a drinking problem and the fact that he was a cold fish. Her parents begged her not to marry him, but she was 21, and no one was going to tell her what to do. She writes 40 years down the road:
“After many years of life experiences granting me distance from Coleman, not to mention many years of my reader mail, I now understand that a Greek chorus saying, 'Don’t do this' should not be disregarded. If I knew then what I know now, as they say, the question I would have asked myself is, Why would your friends and family go out on a limb to tell you this was a bum choice, taking the risk of becoming persona non grata?”
Good question! And one you should ask yourself.
Lesson 2: Know Thyself—and Don’t Settle.
Howard chose her second husband as a reaction to her first. Where her first husband was work-obsessed and stiff, her second husband was easygoing and attentive. "I didn’t have to question his honesty, and he was lovingly solicitous of me…we didn’t argue and the relationship was comfortable," she writes. That comfort made her gloss over the fact that they didn’t have very much in common. She also just assumed that he would be a good step-parent to the three children she had with her first husband. Both of those assumptions were incorrect: "Obviously I did not know myself very well at the time or acknowledge my need for excitement," Howard writes. "Ordinary didn’t do it for me. I would advise anyone not to settle—yet that is what I did."

Lesson 3: Don’t Borrow Other People’s Husbands
After a decade-plus marriage to a famous actor—Ken Howard—their relationship dissolved. Then Howard dated a married guy, who she refers to as a "borrowed husband." "Dallying with a married man seldom ends well (For you, that is. He is usually fine.)" she writes. "Time flies when you’re sabotaging yourself."
Lesson 4: Always Give Second Chances
When she was in her late '50s, Howard was set up on a blind date with a surgeon, who she didn't think was her type. She described him, on first meeting, as "balding and avuncular." But she liked talking to him, and so agreed to a second date. It might be a cliché, but Howard found that "being able to get beyond the surface…made it possible for me to look for things that mattered. This is what prompted me, both in my advice column and when counseling friends, to always advise giving a new person a second look, as it is not possible to get a read on someone after just one encounter."
Reader, she married him. And this is her current—and she hopes, last—husband.

Social Media for Florists Workshop

Something a little different on the blog today, although very interesting and of course I still manage to sneak in some pretty flowers for you! On Wednesday I attended a workshop in London which focused on ‘Social Media for Florists’ delivered by the inspiring Rona Wheeldon who writes the brilliant floral blog Flowerona and Fiona Humberstone, who is an expert in business branding (and much, much more!) The workshop was designed specifically for florists to address how they use their social media, offering key concepts and top tips on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Blogging, Pinterest alongside branding info. As a self employed florist social media has become very important to me and my business as a way of connecting with the outside world and sharing my floral work, therefore as soon as I read about this workshop I knew it would be so relevant and interesting I signed up!

Working for yourself I think it is so easy to get engrossed in the running of the weddings, which is great as they are my passion and I love nothing more than beautifully preparing and delivering a happy couples flowers on their big day. However, I think it is so important to address your business and your journey and focus on where you are going next. I came away from the course so inspired (I actually went on a planned week off, which did nothing for my holiday time as I was back writing my actions, re looking at my blog and spending time letting all this ever so important information sink in!)
Florist | Flowers | Blog | Inspiration | Wedding Flowers | Bristol | Bath | Cotswolds | workshop
I was inspired as soon as I set foot in the building, a space called Brixton East, in Brixton where everyone commented what a cool place this would be for a florist workshop! From the beautiful floral plates from Anthropolgie that we ate our lunch off of to the thoughtful goody bags filled with ribbon and stunning vases from Serax and LSA. Lunch was amazing: wholesome, healthy, tasty and it looked so pretty and colourful with viola flowers on the cakes and nasturtium flowers on the salad created for us by Maddie Hatton. It was this attention to detail that added so much more to the day in making this a fun and inspiring place to learn.
Florist | Flowers | Blog | Inspiration | Wedding Flowers | Bristol | Bath | Cotswolds | workshop
Alongside the social media information which was presented in an articulate, informative yet simple and easy to understand way, I came away having met some great florists who I swapped stories with and exchanged experiences which again added to the relevant nature of the course, knowing that we were all in the same boat! Thank you to Rona and Fiona who have both inspired me so much and made me look at my business in a fresh and exciting way, it is amazing what a day out of the workshop can do… bring on those autumnal October weddings and the on going floral journey at The Rose Shed.

For the closing act at a charity event, Chinese actress Zhou Xun sang two songs – then stayed on stage for the best of encores.
Rumors had swirled beforehand that Zhou would be announcing her engagement to actor Archie Kao at Wednesday's concert in Hangzhou, the capital of China's eastern province of Zhejiang.
But after she sang, she went backstage to change her outfit and reappeared in an ivory Chanel wedding gown, holding a bouquet. As the crowd broke into a loud cheer, she was joined on stage by Kao, who was wearing a black tuxedo.
The couple then surprised everyone by announcing they were getting married onstage. They went on to exchange vows and rings in front of the audience.

A beaming Zhou said she's played a bride in several movie roles, but is happy that she's getting her own happy ending.

White Evening Dresses Is the Symbol of Purity and Innocence

The color of bridal gowns is also very important in addition to the style. The bridal gowns are colorful nowadays. The turquoise bridesmaid dress look very gorgeous and mature, which can show the bride’s mature temperament. The pink wedding dress was recently loved by many brides, which looks dreamlike, easy and comfortable. More and more sweet brides are trying this color. The light green wedding dress leaves people the feelings of unlimited hope. At the same time, light green is fresh color revealing the bride’s fresh temperament.
Scoop Neck A-Line/Princess Charmeuse Sweep Train Chiffon Prom Dress
Although more and more brides choose colorful bridal gowns, the white evening dress is still the mainstream choice. It is the most important part of the modern wedding culture. The white evening dresses have gradually become the most representative of bridal gowns. Every woman has a dream of white evening dresses from the childhood. Although the wedding ceremony has existed all over the world since olden times, the history of the bride wearing bridal gowns on the wedding isn’t over two hundred years.
There is no unified color about pastel bridesmaid dresses in the west before nineteenth Century. Until 1840, the British Queen Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria) got married, dressing in a beautiful white evening dress made of Chinese brocade with a white veil. Its trail is 18 feet long. The pure white color from top to bottom surprised the crowd. Before the wedding of Queen Victoria, bridal gowns of the British royal family are the traditional dress with the crown encrusted in jewels, gowns full of silver and a fur. The spectacular bridal gown became a fashion spreading widely and quickly. It has become a traditional custom wearing the white evening dress in western wedding.

Except retaining their national wedding dress, more and more people choose a white evening dress. The white evening dress represents the purity of heart and childlike innocence. It evolved into a symbol of virginity later. In nineteen twenties the change of women’s social status has greatly changed the style of white evening dress. The short bridal gowns have emerged gradually. In nineteen forties the bridal gowns became simple because of World War II. Many mothers passed bridal gowns to her daughter as a family treasure.
In the following era, the bridal gown is not limited to one style. The bridal gown should express personality of the bride and romantic atmosphere. Despite the popularity is constantly changing, the allure bridesmaids dresses always keep the mean of romantic. With the development of culture, the white evening dress is still mysterious symbol of love and romance.
Sophisticated Strapless Sweetheart Chiffon Long Prom Dress
Although Chinese wedding is different from the western countries’ and most weddings are not held in the church, the white evening dress has become the hit with brides. Unlike Chinese popular color—— red, bridal gowns in Chinese are mainly white that represents purity. Though the white color is plain, it means grand and romantic, which makes a strong contrast with the Chinese traditional wedding. Nowadays in the new Chinese wedding, the young brides take the western white evening dress as important outfit debuting in front of the guests.

How to Match With Prom Dresses

The prom dress refers to the upper class put on the clothes when they are going to attend the prom formal party. Black prom dress and white prom dress is the most classic, and some special prom dresses are also black and white prom dress. Black is calm, dignified and elegant while white is pure and beautiful. It is a combination of both complements of each other.
There are many styles about black and white prom dress, long, knee length, halter-style and bra-style and so on. Choices can be determined on your figure, preferences and the dances you want to hop.
Jewelry, hair-style and makeup, which match with the black and white prom dress, should be more mature and graceful. You can choose more sparkling jewelry necklaces. Gemstone rings can be worn. Hair-style can either be rolled up disheveled such as the straight hair-style or the skilful romantic curls. Heavy makeup is not appropriate and should be simple, but yet elegant.
Royal Blue Princess Short One Shoulder Dress
Elegant evening dresses and prom dresses are different. The elegant evening dress is not only used as a prom dress but also can be used for concerts, business receptions and formal dinners. The evening dress is the formal dress, which is worn after 20:00. The elegant evening dress is also known as, the dinner dress or the prom dress. The elegant evening dress often matches with shawls, jackets, cloak and other kind of clothes. Beautiful decorative gloves and the elegant evening dress constitute the whole outfit together.
There are some evening dress selections techniques:
1, Black color is never out of date. If you want to dress stylishly, overhangs, of course, combine costume theme colors and fashion colors will be the best. If you are too late to pick a chic dress, you should buy a simple style --- black, open collar, sleeveless, simple and subtle, never out of date. Then fine details commit to dotting.
2, Accessories decide fashion. Can not appear in the same face every time, right? You should spend more time on the details. A piece of gorgeous shawl, a string of shiny necklace , a pair of dazzling earrings , a dainty bracelet are the easy way to convert ordinary clothes to dress . But you must remember that you should not put them on all and you look so refine. Handbag styles must be complete because of different occasions.

3, Trend vest is extremely useful. When you are ready to get off work, your boss suddenly inform you attend an important reception at night with him. It is impossible to go home and change or buy an evening dress temporarily? A small vest is the best helper at this time. You can wear inside daytime and the scenery is not significant. Then you can put off your jacket in the evening. As for the color, you can choose the little eye-catching optional red or powder chromic. You can also choose black or gray.
5, Reject all cartoons. Formal occasions are not masquerade. Playing childish is inappropriate --- It is almost the law. After all, the avant-garde and classic are completely different.
